The suboccipital muscles are very small muscles located at the top of your neck just below your skull. Not only do these muscles provide dynamic stabilization of the upper head they allow us to move our head from left to right and in extension. If these muscles are “locked” together there is constant tension in that area. These muscles can entrap surrounding nerves and vasculature, often times causing headaches and referral of pain to the forehead, ear and eye.
